5 Common Digital Marketing Mistakes That Professionals Make

The success of a digital marketing campaign depends on a number of factors ranging from a clear goal to an organized execution.

Even the best of the best marketing professionals occasionally make mistakes in their campaigns, a result for which they don’t get effective results in specific campaigns.

In this article, I’ll highlight a few of the commonest mistakes that professionals make in their digital marketing campaigns. If you are a digital marketing professional, you may consider paying special attention to them, so that you don’t repeat these mistakes in the foreseeable future.

1. Lack of a clear campaign goal

This mistake might look a bit too basic to you but trust me; this is perhaps one of the most common mistakes made by a professional in his/her digital marketing campaign.

A digital marketing campaign must have CLEAR goals, and these should be inclusive of things like:

  • Sales goal

  • Lead generation goals

  • User registration goals

  • Engagement goals and so on.

The above-mentioned goals must be communicated carefully and thoroughly to each of the members who are working on the same campaign. A small communication gap might result in a problem leading to the campaign failure; so make sure it’s kept at bay in the best possible manner.

2. Targeting the wrong audience

Even if the site comes up with fantastic content, it may suffer tremendously in the wrong run if they don’t take the right steps to promote the content to the right audience.

A digital marketing channel is quite vast indeed. There are many genres and many niches. If you don’t research and find out the right one for you and base your content on that, your ranks will suffer for sure. So ensure that you target audience is relevant enough from your service point of view.

3. Bland content

Your marketing content should be attractive and customer-centric such that your customers are compelled to engage with the same. You have to create the maximum possible impression on your customers, in general, to generate more effective results in the long run.

Bland content that’s made for the sake of it can do you no good. It won’t get you those precious little clicks and leads that you desire to have.

This is a mistake that many professionals make. They stress more on quantity than quality and thus, quality goes down significantly with the passage of time. Make sure you don’t do that.

4. Ignoring mobile traffic

The popularity of mobile devices has made the mobile traffic almost as important as desktop/laptop users.

If your digital marketing campaign doesn’t have provisions made for mobile marketing, you will miss out badly on a huge chunk of mobile traffic, which is something that could have helped your campaign a lot in the long run. It’s a fact that can hurt you real bad.

So make sure you have a marketing strategy in place that’s made specifically for mobile users in general. Also, ensure that your website is fully optimized for mobile users (because that’s something that can really make a difference for the best or the worst) for improved accessibility. These two strategies are really capable of giving your campaign a push in the right direction.

5. Buying followers on social media

If you are a digital marketing professional who believes in BUYING fake followers for your social media campaigns to make yourself look credible to the outside world in particular, you need to stop relying on the tactic as soon as possible.

Remember, there’s no place for “fakes” in the digital marketing industry. It’s either genuine or nothing. The tactic also makes you look morally unethical; if you are found guilty of the same (and trust me, certain tools are available on Google that can find out fake followers in matter of seconds).

So believe in ingenuity. It might look a bit too slow at the start, but if you do it the right way, you’ll reach your goal in no time.

Mistakes are a part of the game. The only thing that matters is the fact whether you actually learned from them or not.

I’ll sign this off hoping that you learned a lot from the ones mentioned above and took necessary steps to avoid the same in the foreseeable future. In case you didn’t, you might think of shooting me a query in the section below. I’ll be happy to answer them as soon as possible.
